Statement
After graduating from Clark, I completed my Masters in Business Administration at the University of Michigan with a concentration in computer science. I began my business career in the San Francisco Bay Area working in technology. During my career I worked as a technology consultant, a principal technologist, and served in many senior leadership positions. I was fortunate to work at both start-ups as well as large corporations including Charles Schwab, Nasdaq Stock Exchange, Citigroup, and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Early in my career I learned about the power of technology, as both an enabler of new and wonderful products and services, and as a disruptor that alters the status quo and extinguishes existing products, services, and enterprises. Technology and Organization change became my lifelong passion, and a key part of every role I have had during my career. I have continuously monitored emerging disruptive technology trends and have translated these into adaptive organizational strategies.

At Charles Schwab I had a leadership role in the creation of the first internet web trading application. This initiative transformed Schwab from a discount broker to a leading internet financial services firm. We used technology to create new products and services and disrupted our industry. We were able to do this while retaining our core values, and maintaining the culture that makes Schwab a unique and special place for customers and employees.

As I progressed in my career I looked back and recognized what an important part Clark played in my success, and development as a person. Clark offered so many diverse opportunities and academic options. Where else could you study Marxist economics, computer science, economic geography, accounting, and manage the Clark Pub! It is so important that we keep our university vibrant and attractive for future students.

As a trustee, I would like to utilize my experiences to help Clark identify current and future technology trends, assess how these might impact Clark, and create strategies to harness these technology trends. These trends exploited properly provide opportunities for Clark to increase the reach of the University to a broader audience, and build on its existing relevance becoming even more relevant. Also, investigating how technology can make Clark as affordable as possible to all its potential students, retaining the great value of a Clark degree. This all can be done while retaining the core values and uniqueness that made us all proud to be Clarkees.
