Featured Book: Life of David Hockney

Join Laura Robinson, Clark’s university librarian and special guest host, Dr. Catherine Cusset P’22 for a discussion of Life of David Hockney. A compelling hybrid of fiction and biography, this meticulously researched novel draws an intimate, moving, and insightful portrait of the most famous living English painter. Born in 1937 in a small town in the North of England, David Hockney had to fight to become an artist; he was a figurative painter at a time when only abstract was valued, and an openly gay artist when homosexuality was still a crime. He found freedom in the States in 1961, lived between London and Los Angeles, survived the AIDS years, and turned pain and mourning into an art full of light and joy.
