Alumni & Friends Virtual Book Club

Celebrate Women’s History Month by meeting an extraordinary leader who was not only the first female from her high school to become a physician, but also the first female prison doctor in the state of Nevada. Join Laura Robinson, Clark’s university librarian, and special guest host, alumna Karen Gedney ’79 MD, for an in-depth discussion of her book, 30 Years Behind Bars: Trials of a Prison Doctor.

For 30 years, Dr. Gedney worked within the Nevada prison system, providing care and advocating for prisoners. She has been honored with a Heroes for Humanity Award and was named “One of the Best in the Business” by the American Correctional Association. In 2019, she received the Service to Society award from Clark University.
